Learning to Swim as an Adult in Cornwall
Difficulties of learning to Swim
Consider Learning in a wonderful private location at Cornish Swim Academy
Learning to swim as an adult in Cornwall or in fact anywhere in the UK can be difficult, as we get older the fear factor will creep in, and from simply this point alone that's a major factor for staying away from the pool and learning to swim.
Bad swimming experience as a child
Many adults learning to swim will often have a bad experience to overcome, it may be that during there childhood they had a near drowning experience, falling into open water or even at a swimming lesson or indoor swimming pool, its true to say its possible to overcome this situation in whatever form it takes:
Placing your face under the water
Getting started if your learning as an adult could be something as simple as splashing water over face, or even blowing bubbles, in some extream cases some Adults, in fact, have such a fear of water that they struggle with even taking a shower and having water on the face, this feeling can, however, be overcome:
Learning to put your face under the water and blowing bubbles is a really good start on the path of learning to swim Frontcrawl: this could even be done at home, once your head is down and you are relaxed then the process of streamline works can begin, from basic push and guides the next step would be simply to learn standing up:
Standing up from a floating position or from a feeling of losing your footing and falling forwards in the pool is really important, many adults have a tremendous fear of this and it should, therefore, be overcome as quickly as possible:
Getting started to push and guide as an Adult Swimmer
You can consider a simple push a guide with a float as an adult is a really good first step on the road to a full push and guide into a standing position in a slow and controlled manner.
Learning to Swim Breast Stroke as an Adult
So if you're really not happy about putting your head down under the water as an Adult swimmer it maybe that Front Crawl swimming is not for you, and if your really not happy as an adult swimmer then its really important to do what you like, or don't mind, you will learn quicker:
Using floats that offer support such as woggles and small kick boards can be a great help, the long sausage float also known as the woggle is a really good floatation aid for adults learning Breast Stroke and it's worth remembering for an adult wishing to learn.

Choosing the right swimwear- Cornish swimmers
Swimming Competition Cornwall - Age Groupers
It is very important to choose the correct swimwear for your training and competitions, swimwear is a piece of sports equipment, like a runner would choose the best fitting trainers a swimmer should choose the best fitting swimwear.
Wearing the wrong size swimsuit can hinder your performance –
An oversized swimsuit can cause bag which creates drag in the water, a scooping neck can also occur when in the streamline position and doing breaststroke, likewise a swimsuit that’s too small can cause discomfort and restrict movement.
Try before you Buy "Swimwear"
When choosing your swimwear it is best to try it on first, you should check that its nice and tight without being uncomfortable, be aware that it will loosen over time and feel different when swimming in the water, jammers should fit snug at the waist and knee and you should only be able to fit 2 fingers under these areas.
Is it "Chlorine Resistant"!?
Look out for chlorine resistant suits and jammers if your training regularly.
Sometimes you just need to try different styles and different brands to get the best fit as one size in one brand may feel very different to the same size in another.
